Chatrapti Shivaji Maharaj is among those great men of India whose thoughts even today inspire all Indians to serve their motherland. He was a great patriot and aimed at bringing the wole India under the rule of Indian and ousting the cruel rulers like Aurangzeb.
Shivaji Maharaj was born on February 19th, 1630 on the fort of Shivneri. His father Shahajiraje Bhonsle was a brave Sardar who served in Adilshah. His mother Jijabai was daougher of an Adilshahi Sardar Lakahuji Jadhav of Sinkhed . Both his mother and father were increasingly unleash with policies of Adilshahs harassments and exploitation of the native people. Thus, Jijabai, inspired Shivaji from his childhood Itself to work for the betterment of his subjects. She inspired him by the stores of religious heroes like Arjuna, Shri Ram,Shrikrishna, Bhim and the like.
His basic education had already stated in terams of the moral stories told to him by his mother Jijabai. Shahaji, had appointed many learned people and teachers to teach Shivaji various skills and languages. Dadoji Konddev, an able administrator was the Guru of Shivaji. He had read the religious books like Ramayana and Mahabharata at a very early age . He practiced skills like swordsmanship, horse –riding. Wrestling etc. he also was a patron of various arts and encouraged artiste. His teachers, thus molded him into a complete personality.
He roamed and played with the local children and was one with them. He took the oath of ‘Swaraj’ at the Rameshwar temple near pune along with a few companions. He was just a leader of a handful youngmen, but had installed such faith in each of them that they were ready, even to lay their lives for him. At a very young age, he captured The Jorana fort form the Adilshahi.
At the age of 29, he had captured 40 forts and his small group had swollen to a formidable force. He had terrified the whole Adilshahi and none of the Adilshahs sardars except Afzal khan dared to even stare at him. The adilshah of brigapal sent Afzal khan to capture and kill Shivaji with a hug-army, but in a daing act, Shivaji torn apart the stomach of Afzal Khan, who was double the strength of shivajil This ws just example of Shivaji bravery and strategy making.
Many such acts of courage shine in the life of Shivaji Maharaj like Jewls. He was coronated as the “Chhatrapati” in 1674 in royal ceremony. His gentle-manship is exemplifies even today. He held women in high resepct. He niver fortnute the captmed soldiers natither ill-treated the women in the conquered areas.
His legend can’t be transformed into words as he remains an immortal collection of the best human qualities. There is government holiday on his Birthday in Maharashtra.
