India is a land of uneven rains. Sometimes there is scanty rainfall and some other times there is a heavy rainfall. When there is little or no rain, there are droughts but when there are heavy rains, the rivers overflow. The water in the rivers runs over the banks and enters the nearby town and villages. Such a critical condition is called a flood. Sometimes the flood is even caused due to the melting of snow on the mountains.
Floods are so dangerous and divesting those floods have become synonymous to deaths and drudgery. During floods, thousands of villages and hundreds of towns and cities are filled with water. Various people and animals get trapped in neck deep water. This result in a huge number of deaths. Buildings collapse, phone lines do not work, electricity is also cut off, there is scarcity of food and drinking water. At that situation everyone wants to reach a safe place, but all in vain. There is a huge loss of life and property. In such a divesting flood, all one can do is wait for the water to flow down.
The Government is alert and sends reuse teams immediately for help. Drowning people are airlifted with the help of defiance helicopters. Defense personnel play a major role in these relief operations. They put their run life at state to save drawings people. The government also distributes food and drinking water through them, affected people, along with their belongings are taken to safer places. Floods are among the most devastating natural phenomena. Hundreds of villages are completed destroyed. Thousands of people are rendered homeless. The property with core of rupees is washed away. This recurring menace in India, needs to be death with proper strategy the capacity of dams needs to be increased, large number of canals need to be dug. To distribute the overflowing river evenly in different areas and thus reduce the intensity of floods. This will also improve the irrigation facilities. The ambitious river joining project can be of great help in this regard. All the useful rain water can be put to proper use. Instead of letting it run away to the sea.
Thus, if we are successful in preventing floods, we will be able to save precious lives and property worth core of rupees.
